How to build up hype for a product

How do you build up hype for a new product ?

The obvious answer is:

Don't launch it "on the spot".

That ruins the significance of the product.

People will rightfully assume it's not a big deal because you launched it on a random day without preparing them for it.

In gaming this is called a "Shadow Drop".

It's when a company releases a new game or content without prior announcement. They drop the game out of nowhere as as surprise release.

This launch strategy works for bigger brands since they have a huge fanbase already.

People buy the game in the millions sometimes. And social media does the marketing for them.

But when you don't have millions of customers...

Waitlists come in handy

My client is launching a new product in May.

And we have a 3 week launch plan in the works to build up interest to the product.

It starts with the waitlist.

The waitlist gives them an exclusive discount to use once the product launches.

I originally thought 1 week would be good to tease it then launch.

The client has multiple similar products. So I didn't think this new one would stand out too much.

We then discussed a strategy he thought would be worth implenting.

I realized we could emphasize the product and tease it until it's official launch sometime in the second half of May.

(Even though it's similar to the other products.)

Subscribers would first get the waitlist.

Then they would receive many kinds of emails to keep them excited until release.

The strategy includes:

Waitlist
Stories.
Teasers.
SMS.
Small challenges.
Urgent reminders.
Authority building.
Introducing unique mechanisms.
Demo unboxing and short videos.
Post launch emails and incentives.

Now the launch will have much more hype attached to it.

When you believe in your product and know it works...

People will appreciate the attention and care you give it. They'll be interested in looking into it.

Kind of like when you see something over and over again.

You eventually search or ask about it.

It's too important to ignore.

Let's see how this launch goes in the coming weeks.

And with that...
I'm off.

I started reading this book called: "The Challenger Sale". Its premise is around taking control of the conversation with the customer. And what type of seller you should be to increase your chances of closing bigger deals. I'm 50 pages in. So far this book has intrigued me more than I thought. Those open loops are working well. But it's more than the structure keeping me reading. The book talks about the discovery of 5 types of sales reps... after researching tens of thousands of calls and...

A popular skin cream brand is called:“O’Keeffe’s” They make hand and body lotion for dry skin. Their main products are “Working Hands” Cream. I first found out about them over 7 years ago. My hands have always dried up since I wash them too much. Back then and today that’s still the case. In winter they crack and bleed frequently since we always get -10C to -30C weather. So when I looked for hand lotion at the time… This O’Keeffe’s brand whispered to me from the shelf. An all green container...

As I sit here listening to the Pokemon Colosseum soundtrack... I'm thinking how fascinating it is all these different music tracks exist yet each one stands out as a singular piece of art. Every day new soundtracks release. In video games and films and concerts and more. They have soundtracks releasing in all these mediums. Similar instruments and sounds across many of them... But they each hold their own flavour. The instruments and rhythm differ. The tone changes. The themes contrast. So...
